Tip Rhinoplasty, also known as mini nose job, is type of nasal cosmetic surgery that focuses on modification of nasal alars and cartilage at the very tip of the nose. Anatomical structures of nasal bridge and flat bones of nose are not manipulated in the course of surgery, so it is a minimally invasive procedure with short recovery period. It is an effective way to achieve desired facial aesthetic and improve one’s appearance.
Cosmetic surgeon consultation. At the preliminary appointment the doctor discusses the patient’s needs and plans the surgery. Each case has unique features and these must be taken into account beforehand. The surgeon studies soft tissues of the nose, general facial structure and offers possible manipulations.
Diagnostic testing. Normal preoperative diagnostic panel is taken – general blood analysis, infectious panel, cardiac and renal function assessment, etc. These are necessary to exclude any contraindications and guarantee the patient’s safety.
Surgery. May be performed under general or local anaesthisia, which is defined by scope of procedure and individual case features. The procedure takes up to 60 minutes, and may involve the following manipulations – cartilage tie plasty, cartilage implant, cartilage reposition or reduction. The exact procedure technique comes in two options – open and closed, both of which offer fast recovery and abscence of visible scars in the aftermath, and technique choice is made by the operating surgeon individually for each clinical case.
Open technique involves making an incision across the columella – flap of skin separating the nostrils. Such incision gives better access to the soft tissues and cartilage, and is typically preferred if the case requires larger scale remodeling or anatomical features of the patient limit alternative access.
Closed technique requires an incision at the inner contour of the nostril, is considered to be less invasive, though is sometimes inapplicabel for the reasons stated above.
After gaining access to the soft tissues and cartilage by either of these techniques, surgeon may remodel them, which may involve ectomy (cutting off) of excess tissue, implantation to add volume and corrrect shape, inner suture to change configuration of tissues and, thus, shape.
