Calf Augmentation (Implants) is a complex procedure targeting improvement of shape and aesthetic of calves and shin area. A special prosthesis or patient’s own fat (typically both) are used to reshape appearance of leg, without affecting natural biomechanics providing long-lasting and natural-looking results.
We use a combination of lipoplasty and highly cohesive gel implants that “memorize” and hold shape to achieve best results possible. As any other surgery, calf augmentation is preceded by thorough examination and consultation with the operating surgeon.
Calf Augmentation is a relatively simple type of surgery, and is often used to improve leg aesthetics. There are two types of implant placement – subcutaneous and submuscular. The former is a simpler procedure, as implant is placed directly under connective tissue between skin and muscle, with faster recovery, but higher risk of eventual implant displacement and requirement for follow-up surgery. The latter is more complex, as implant is placed under the calf muscle, which is a more secure type of implant placement, though this surgery has longer postoperational recovery period.
Typical indications for calf implant surgery:
Calf implant surgery contraindications:
Calf implants look and feel natural, as implant material has properties that imitate muscle tissue perfecly. In rare cases, a subcutaneous implant’s edge can be felt through skin, but that is a sign of implant displacement which indicates a need for secondary placement surgery.
